Remarkable Landmarks Poster

The Task:

Here, I was tasked with researching a landmark from around the world
and creating an infographic poster based on it. I faintly remembered seeing images of a giant Buddha statue facing a river in China, and decided to fully delve into it. The Leshan Giant Buddha is a monumental feat of craftsmanship that has remained standing for over 1200 years. Meant to be a guardian of the rivers it faces, I wanted to create an ethereal and tranquil image which reflects that sentiment.

Moodboard & Initial Type Considerations

I was heavily inspired by photography that highlighted the scale and beauty of the Leshan Buddha and paintings that depicted Buddhas using vibrant and saturated colors. In the early process stages, I sought to see how I could merge these two worlds. With the type, I was considering serifs that would add to the elegance I was trying to portray in the composition. Additionally, I wanted to match that with the name of the Buddha written in Chinese.

Type Treatment & Graphic Elements

As to not detract from the primary imagery, I went for simpler, vector graphic elements that were still clear and legible. I
wanted to incorporate Buddhist imagery as well, so I used the Dharmachakra Wheel as decoration in the timeline portion.

Font & Color Palette

After some peer feedback, I changed the color of the Buddha from blue
to a minty jade green to match the kinds of jade Buddha statues. I also settled on Nyght Serif as my typeface, as it has a nice blend of
elegance and flair to it.

Final Poster

As some finishing touches, I updated the icon for the Buddha statue to make it more accurate along with adjusting the infographics to hug the shape of the Buddha more naturally.
